Ellie P. Breed:German Shepherd

May 30, 2002,
Ellie is an 8-year-old German shepherd. We found her, abandoned and half starved. According to the Vet she was approximately one year old. She had been spade and obedience trained so it was a mystery as to why she was on her own.

She had been living at a rural area soccer field for 3 months before we found her, according to the caretaker there. Animal control would not pick her up because it was a county area. She had been drinking out of the toilets and begging handouts from people who were picnicking there to watch the games. She was seriously underweight. I saw someone kick her when she was begging for food so I took a piece of twine and loaded her into my van. The rest is history. We had her checked out by the vet. She injured herself at two and was paralyzed in the hindquarters for several weeks. Prednisone brought her out of the paralysis but she is still weak in the rear. During that period the vet examined her by x-ray and found that she is carrying a 22-caliber bullet in the abdomen.

Ellie developed grand mall fits about a year after we had her. She would get them sometimes in clusters lasting several days. Three times she has had to be placed on an IV of Phenobarbital or pentobarbital for several days before the spells broke. Sometimes just doubling up on her Phenobarbital pills for a few days will get her out of it. Other times I have to give her injections of Phenobarbital or give it anally to get her to respond. Currently she is on 3 60-milligram tablets twice a day.

Her natural mature weight stays about 105 pounds and she has a sable coat. She has been plagued by skin irritations and itching since two years old. She would chew at her front and hind legs, making them raw. About three to four times a year our vet has given her oral antibiotics and a steroid injection, which does help for a short time.

Antioxidant TreatsSince being on the NZYMES® Antioxidant Treats and the Eaglepack food her condition has totally changed. Ellie is much calmer now, NOT ITCHY, and no longer chews her legs. I have noticed that her convulsions are more infrequent and milder in the year that I have been giving her NZYMES®. I give her one treat in the morning and another in the evening when I give her seizure medicine, just before feeding her. I feed her dry Eagle senior food in the morning and dry plus a half can of Eagle canned food in the evening.

german shepherd with epilepsyThe combination of the NZYMES® and Eagle food has really made a difference. We are really pleased, as she is such a blessing to our family. She truly is a gentle giant and has never ever even growled at a human. Our small grandchildren love her and she them.
