Canine Cancer and Diet: Part Two
In the last issue I talked about things that may cause cancer in your dog. This time I want to share with you different supplements that can aid in detoxifying your pet and decreasing the likely hood of cancer occurring. Some supplements are even known to decrease the size of cancer masses.
MILK THISTLE is a powerful antioxidant that research has shown protects the liver from free radicals and aids in normal liver function. 1/8tsp per 10lbs of body weight
MEDICINAL MUSHROOMS are thought to contain 126 different medicinal prosperities, including: antibactial, antidiabetic, antifungal, antiparasitic, antitumor, antiviral, cardiovascular, detoxification, and radical scavenging to name a few. Dr. Jean Dodds recommends I’m Yunity @ www.imyunityfordogs.com
OMEGA 3 can inhibit the formation of tumors and prevent cancer from metastasizing. 150mg EPA per 10lbs of body weight.
SPIRULINA is a blue-green algae that contains strong antioxidant, anti-inflammatory, anti arthritic, anti-cancer and liver protective properties. Spirulina is rich in many important nutrients, including B-Complex vitamins and vitamin E, many minerals, chlorophull, phytonutrients, and potent free radical scavengers. Suggested use: 1/4 tsp./cup food
CURCUMIN (TURMERIC) has been shown to contain many beneficial properties, including potent anti-cancer properties. Curcumin is known to eliminate cancer cells (apoptosis) in types of cancer. To allow this supplement to be absorbed by the body, it should be given with a fat source such as Omega 3 or Coconut oil. Consult your vet is your dog is on chemotherapy, as it can decrease the effectiveness of certain chemotherapy drugs.
PROBIOTICS Hippocrates, the father of medicine states “bad digestion is at the root of all evil” and “death sits in the bowels”. Many environmental factors can disrupt the balance of the gut bacteria, such as antibiotics, poor diet, stress and vaccinations. I personally prefer the Probiotics by the Nzymes company for dogs. They are living, micro-encapsulated healthy bacteria that promotes proper digestion and absorption of nutrients. It is very cost efficient; 200 grams lasting the average dog 400 days if taken regularly.
Ox-E DROPS also by the Nzymes company, is an important supplement to remove pathogens from the body, balance the stomach acidity, and supports the immune system. In the fight against cancer it releases precursors, which assist the body in the removal of potentially dangerous free radicals and toxins. Ox-E Drops has the ability to be used externally as a 2% solution or internally by adding a couple drops to the water bowl.
NZYMES GRANULES is an enzyme rich, living, antioxidant supplement. This very important supplement can benefit any pet at any time. Because Nzymes fills in the nutritional gaps that processed food or even a raw diet can leave, with living vital vitamins, minerals, enzymes, amino acids and folic acid, it gives the body the power to recover and repair itself.
“FOOD can either be the most powerful form of medicine or the slowest form of poison.” ~ Ann Wigmore. Feeding a fresh diet rich in antioxidant foods is the ideal way of preventing cancer but if cancer has been diagnosed then there are special home prepared diets created to starve the cancer growth.
