Dog Puppy Acne Natural Treatment: How Bacchus the Great Dane Went from Head-to-Toe Pimples to Beautiful Black Coat
Bacchus is a black Great Dane from Levittown, New York. His puppy acne started mild — and then spread until his entire back was too painful to touch. His breeder recommended Nzymes Ox-E Drops. His owners Michael and Jeanne mixed the topical solution, left for their honeymoon, and came home two weeks later to a very orange but essentially pimple-free puppy. His black coat returned quickly. They have never looked back.
What do you do when a puppy's acne keeps spreading despite everything you try?
When Bacchus, our Great Dane puppy, was a few months old he had puppy pimples. It really wasn’t too bad in the beginning. But, as he got older it just got worse. He was covered from head to toe!! It was so bad; you could not even touch his back. My husband and I tried so many different vitamins and all natural supplements. We even tried different shampoos. Nothing seemed to work. Then our Breeder told us to contact Nzymes.com and to try using Nzymes® Ox-E-Drops. We thought we mixed up solution as suggested, but we had actually tripled the correct suggested mixture).
So we started Bacchus on the Ox-E-Drops. Unfortunately, at this same time we were leaving for our Honeymoon so before we left and had a friend watch Bacchus while we were gone. She continued to use the Ox-E-Drops solution on him with the “tripled-mixture” 3 times a day. When we got home two weeks later, our little boy (who is a black Great Dane) was now a little orange! But the puppy pimples was practically gone!!!! We could not believe it. We didn’t even care that his coat was sort of orange due to the bleaching effects of the solution. He really looked awesome. It was amazing. His coat returned to the natural color very quickly as you can see form the photos here.
I wish I would have known about Ox-E-Drops right from the beginning. Now, when we see a pimple, whether it is on the dog or on us, we use Ox-E-Drops. What a great product. Not only does Bacchus look incredible but now he has his beautiful black coat back! We would recommend Nzymes® Ox-E-Drops to anyone. They are wonderful!!

A note on the topical solution — then and now:

When Michael and Jeanne used Ox-E Drops for Bacchus, the standard approach was to mix your own topical spray from the Ox-E Drops concentrate — diluted in water at the recommended ratio. The accidental tripling of the mixture produced a stronger oxidizing solution, which explains both the speed of results and the temporary orange tint on Bacchus's black coat. The coat returned to its natural color quickly once the application stopped.
Today, Nzymes offers Mineral Mist — a ready-to-use 2% colloidal mineral topical spray that eliminates the mixing step entirely. Same principle, correct concentration, no mixing required. For current topical use on skin conditions, hot spots, or puppy acne, Mineral Mist is the practical modern choice.
Is your dog or puppy dealing with persistent acne or skin inflammation?
Bacchus's story is a testament to what Ox-E Drops can do topically — even at an accidentally higher concentration than intended. For families today, the approach is simpler: Ox-E Drops added to food or water for internal support, and Mineral Mist applied directly to the skin for topical support — no mixing, correct concentration, ready to use. For dogs with more widespread skin challenges alongside acne or surface inflammation, see our article on dog hot spots.
Ox-E Drops — internal antimicrobial and pH support
A few drops added to food or water daily support healthy pH balance and the body's natural defenses against bacterial and microbial activity. The same product that cleared Bacchus's acne — used internally at the recommended dilution.
Ox-E Drops →Mineral Mist — the modern ready-to-use topical
The ready-made replacement for the DIY Ox-E Drops topical spray. Applied directly to affected skin areas 2–3 times daily. Same antimicrobial principle — correct 2% concentration, no mixing required. The practical topical choice for puppy acne, hot spots, and surface skin challenges today.
