Why Does Dog Chew Or Lick Paws Incessantly?

It’s All About that Itch!  Let’s understand the Source of the itching…

The WHY is very simple:  In a small number of cases, it can be as simple as just unhealthy Skin & Coat, easily rectified by just One of our ProductsHowever, in the preponderance of cases that we see, it’s a much Deeper underlying cause!  That would be a serious Imbalance of the Gut Biome (the microbial Flora).  The easiest thing to disturb is that very delicate balance within gut Flora.  All it takes is feeding any ONE of the main-line dog foods (90+ percent of them) of the 400+ on the market!  Most of them are Loaded with ‘too much sugar’ – in the form or Carbohydrates.  And Sugar feeds growth of YEAST, the Villain in this picture!  Next, you just need 2-3 weeks of Antibiotics, OR repeated Rabies vaccines (the First one does enough damage to body chemistry).

The Video covered a lot of ground because – while the ‘licking issue’ seems simple – it can often be more Complex, especially if making use of local help first (veterinarian).  The Video placed some focus on Warnings – related to immune suppression techniques that come into the picture from local vet visits.  The most frequent tools employed by vets – especially for Skin or Itching issues – will be that of using Antibiotics and Steroids.  Both of which suppress immune function; wherein, the steroid is designed specifically for that purpose. But, Steroids have been superseded in the recent decade by more exotic immune suppression drugs that we find to be wreaking havoc on immune function of suffering dogs.  How do we know?  Because after the pet owner gives up on those methods, and finds our Healthy-Skin Program, we see that recovery/repair times – for restoring GUT health – are seriously longer.  Before we move on to Action-Plan recommendations (based on a Symptom Checker SCORE), we need to touch on the role of SUGAR in all this mess.  Also, the Video advised to search and read information HERE: Immune suppression.

The Sweet Connection – Sugar and Yeast

If and when Yeast symptoms are becoming apparent, it is imperative that the food/sugar connection, as it relates to YEAST, needs to be well understood.  Yeast candida is but one form of many thousands of forms of fungus found on planet earth. Candida is typically found in the GUT, or other places (mouth or vagina, in humans) when not constrained to the gut. And, Candida feeds on sugar, not other forms of yeast.  So, conquering yeast overgrowth in the body requires careful attention to elimination of sugar from the diet. This is where the ‘catch 22’ comes into play, since MOST dog foods (canned or kibble) are way too heavy in starch (the main source of sugar in PET diets).  This is a major reason for our Recommended Foods list. So, should you be guided to using our Nzymes® Healthy-Skin Program – using a correct food is mandatory.  For further understanding and visual reference, please see this Demo-Slide – as an illustration of what you’ll find at Big-Chain-Stores selling Big-Brand pet food.

Plan One: Score = 1 or 2 (click to open)

The Lower the Score, the more Difficult the Assessment

Yes, with a score of 1-2, it becomes harder to accurately assess your situation. Wherein, some dogs can be pre-occupied with ‘cleaning/Licking’ at feet and legs, much like Cats. But, when there is Chewing involved, this is stronger evidence of itchiness that is much deeper than the surface! Having to suffer with Yeast myself, I can attest to this matter – of deep, unreachable ITCH that can drive you nuts – especially if you can’t ‘will yourself’ to leave it alone. It’s well below surface skin level. Therefore, where Chewing is also seen, you should assess that itchiness is involved, and consider 1 or 2 Nzymes products (Ox-E-Drops is an option), plus Approved Low-glycemic food.

My Border Collie is a great example. Her pre-occupation of Licking feet/legs has been pretty much life-long. But, I must consider – she had Yeast issues after her 2nd round of Rabies (vax) at 5-months. So, she has always been on Nzymes, but had a Yeasty-ear outburst at age 12 (March of ’20) – after Steroid shots months earlier. These facts lead to a conclusion – there is still some itchiness (minor yeast) she is trying to deal with – at feet/legs.  These are the kind of cases where the “better safe than Sorry” sort of decision is to your advantage.  Again, better food + one or 2 Nzymes products may easily get things under control before you have a Raging mess on your hands.

Plan Two: Score = 3 to 4

A) If your use of the Symptom Checker revealed a Score of 3 or 4, now you have more symptoms, with an increased probability that yeast is at the Core of what is going on.  No big deal here; assuming the dog is not digging and scratching all over the place, we think you can still make great progress without a Full Healthy-Skin Kit.  But, an Extra product warranted – to do battle with the yeast fungus – called Ox-E-Drops.  That, along with your choice our our Antioxidant products – either the Antioxidant Treats (for Fun or Convenience), OR the Sprouted Granules (2 sizes) – will hopefully be sufficient help (along with Proper food, below).  The Granules are our Raw product – and recommended for large dogs (over 60Lbs) or greater economy.  Folks with no budget constraints can also use the Treats for larger dogs, or they can have the best of Both worlds – with something like our Sampler Kit.

B) Also, a switch to BETTER FOOD gets more critical each time the symptom-count increases, where now the score is 3 or 4. And this extra challenge indicates you need some specific product help with the Yeast-fungus challenges, which is the very easy to use Ox-E-Drops. So, you need the ‘Drops‘, an Antioxidant Product, and better food (we don’t sell that).  The better food is a 2-way winner; it provides superior Nutrition, which can make a difference, AND it cuts down on the daily Sugar intake – to stop feeding any yeast that is working on taking over the gut (and body).  Remember, it’s the carbohydrates in the food – that account for all the sugar that feeds Yeast growth.

Plan Three: Score = 5 or 6

A) This is where things really start to get Tricky!  We really need to converse with you now – before you jump into what could be a wrong decision. We want your dog to make Progress, not get worse.  We need to know WHICH symptoms your dog is suffering with, and how bad those are – so we can recommend either – 1. One of our 3-PAK kits, along with full Program instructions, OR 2. One of our actual Healthy-Skin Kits, previously known as Yeast Cleansing Kits.  So, the safest way to proceed – is to have you CALL US for a free consultation – to aid in your decision, and increase chances things will move in the right direction. So, we ask that you call us – during work hours – 9am Eastern to 6pm PST, M-F, at 877.816.6500.

B) Also, a switch to BETTER FOOD gets more critical each time the symptom-count increases, where now the score is 5 or 6, which is getting to either a FULL Skin Kit or a partial one (3-PAK). The conversation with our staff should be able to nail down the best way to go.  Of course, better food is absolutely required.  You can’t get the dog fixed if you don’t greatly reduce sugar intake (which is my downfall, since I’m a sugar-addict and have to eat food wherever I find it during work hours.  Also, the better food is a 2-way winner; it provides superior Nutrition, which can make a difference, AND it cuts down on the daily Sugar intake – to stop feeding any yeast that is working on taking over the gut (and body).  Remember, it’s the carbohydrates in the food – that account for all the sugar that feeds Yeast growth.

Plan Four: Score = 7, 8 or Higher

A) Once you see that your dog has a Symptom-count into this higher range, this is strong evidence that yeast growth is serious enough to warrant proceeding with our full Healthy-Skin Program, which warrants one of our many choices of Healthy-Skin KitsThey come with 5 products, the Full Written instruction Booklet, and significant Email support.  But don’t forget, you are not on your own!  We are your backup.  Phone support is yours to use – as needed – to help ensure things get ‘on track’ and progress.  So, we ask that you call us – during work hours – 9am Eastern to 6pm PST, M-F, at 877.816.6500.
