Abbie’s Allergy Journey from Apoquel & Cytopoint to Nzymes
Abbie Before – June 6, 2020
Abbie After – October 17, 2020
Her Problems Started as a Puppy
As a puppy, Abbie was having problems with her skin. We began by trying various herbal skin remedies which only led to further deterioration of her skin. She was itching badly and eating herself alive. Finally, we ended up at the vet, and Abbie was given an allergy skin scraping. When the results came back, it seemed like Abbie was ALLERGIC to everything.
Our Vet Recommended to Start Apoquel Immediately
To start with, my vet recommended that she start immune-therapy treatment immediately. So, that is when Abbie started taking Apoquel tablets. In the beginning, they seemed to greatly improve her skin problem. However, after 18 months of Apoquel use, she started to have problems with her skin again. So, of course, it was back to the vets and I was told to double the dose of Apoquel tablets, which I did. Again, all seemed well for a while.
After Double Dosing the Symptoms Came Back
After a few months of double-dosing the Apoquel, she started to chew herself until she was bleeding again. This time the vet suggested a new treatment that had recently come out that was supposed to be very effective. This is when she started with Cytapoint injections which needed to be given to Abbie every 6 weeks.
I Started Asking Myself “Are Allergy Drugs Safe for Dogs?”
What I had found out on the internet about the dangers of these allergy medications distressed me greatly. It was hard to believe that I was paying for something to go into my dog’s body which at best would eventually stop working and worse, could create more potential skin symptoms. I was paying to poison my dog. I was desperate to find an natural alternative to these allergy drugs.

We Found a Better and Safer Plan
After hours of searching online, I came across Nzymes Healthy Skin Program. Next, I emailed my questions and was stunned to find out that these ‘allergy results’ were more likely due to false positives results because of Abbie’s poor immune system. They explained this was likely a breakdown of Abbie’s Gut which resulted in a digestive yeast overgrowth and leaky gut syndrome. I was shocked, the more I found out about this product, the more sense it made. I immediately stopped the Cytapoint injections and ordered the Nzymes SMALL Healthy Skin Kit for Abbie.
Finally, We Saw the First Major Changes
For months Abbie had been producing black, foul-smelling gunk in her ears which had aggravated her terribly. But it was a couple of weeks of using the Nzymes before I saw the first major changes. Finally now, after using the Nzymes program, her ears have cleared and turned into normal wax!
Symptoms Began Improving
As time passed, she itched less and less and was no longer chewing herself raw. Abbie developed some bald patches but her skin stayed good and when new hair grew back, it was healthy. At the moment She is still a work in progress and as you say, and I’ve learned that yeast is a tricky customer. I am however confident that she will soon be back to her normal self.
The Photos Tell the Story
As of today, my 4-year-old Shar-pei bitch has been on the Nzymes Healthy Skin Program for 27 weeks and doing much better. I am including photos of Abbie showing her physical changes over the months. Note the considerable change in her skin. To say that she is very much improved would be an understatement.
HUGE THANKS from the bottom of my heart, you have truly saved her life. Thank you so very much.
Liz Cassidy and Abbie.
