Dog Dermatitis

Increase Your Understanding about Dermatitis in Dogs

Dermatitis is the term for a variety of inflammatory skin conditions that can have DermatitisinDogsserious negative and long-term affects for the overall health of your dog. It can be a temporary or chronic (repetitive) condition that can affect the overall health as well as the appearance of the skin. And, there can be many underlying causes for what’s going on within the skin.

Various other health issues within the body may cause dermatitis, thus prompting the affected animal to scratch or bite itself frequently. Some causes of dermatitis include:

  • Yeast infection
  • Flea bites
  • Drug reactions (exposure to toxins)
  • Nutritional deficiencies
  • A Cancer, that can give rise to skin irritation and excessive itchiness

SYMPTOMS TO WATCH FOR:

  • Persistent itching along with scratching
  • Breakout of skin rash
  • Areas of apparent Acne, small or large
  • The appearance of a red, irritating and painful-looking sore (hotspot )
  • Scaly, rough or oozing areas on the skin, usually accompanied by hair loss

Because dermatitis can be the consequence of contact irritants, your dog’s domain should be considered and carefully observed. Typical contact irritants include floor cleaners, carpet deodorizers, air fresheners, laundry detergents, fabric softeners, etc. If your pet’s dermatitis appeared after a change in one of these products, that is likely the culprit.

IMPORTANT NOTE:
It should be pointed out, that most cases of dermatitis that appear over a course of time, are likely an artifact of an overgrowth of yeast in the GI tract, which is a result of the destruction of beneficial bacterial colonies within intestinal Gut Flora. When the protective Bacteria – that belongs in the Gut (keeping yeast under control) – is destroyed (by Antibiotics, vaccination reactions, etc.) Yeast begins to proliferate and create infection areas on intestinal tissues. This condition is normally made obvious/observable by EXTERNAL symptoms of skin and ears, including itchiness, inflammation, etc.
